South Korea Launch Pilot UHD Broadcasting

KCTA Switch On EventSouth Korea are the first nation to launch Ultra High-Definition television programming, with five content providers now broadcasting to a limited audience using special LG TV cable connections. The move to UHD has happened 6 months ahead of schedule and a whole year ahead of rival Japanese initiatives.

The Korea Cable Television & Telecommunications Associations (KCTA) held a “switch-on” event in Seoul last week. Specific details are sketchy at the moment with regards to content and subscription information but it has been established that content will initially focus on Korean-produced documentaries with more traditional programming and sports coverage to be factored in during 2014.
