Sony Details New ES Projectors

Sony VPL-VW1100ESDuring last week’s CEDIA Expo in Denver, Colorado, Sony announced three new digital projectors, two of which are 4K models.

The Sony VPL-VW1100ES is a 4K projector that includes full DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative), 4096 x 2160 resolution. It also features 3D playback capabilities; 2,000 lumens of brightness; a contrast ration of 1,000,000:1, which utilises Sony’s Iris 3 technology to improve black levels; and Sony’s Digital Reality Creation picture engine. Suggested list price has been set at $28,000.

The other 4K model is the VPL-VW600ES, a less expensive alternative with 1,700 lumens of brightness and a 200,000:1 contrast ration in addition to 3D playback. The price for this one has been set at a more reasonable $15,000, and both 4K projectors include the latest iteration of HDMI input that supports 4K/60p playback.

The third projector, the VPL-HW55ES, is a standard HD offering with 3D playback, 1,700 lumens and a contrast ration of more than 120,000:1. All of which is bolstered by the Sony Digital Reality Creation picture engine. The asking price for this model will be $4,000.
