Sharp Introduces First THX Certified UHD Television

Sharp Aquos UHD TVSharp will be the latest manufacturer to join the 4K UHD TV bandwagon. However, they’re also bringing a friend.

Due out later this summer, Sharp’s 70″ Aquos Television will be the first 4K UHD set to have THX certification. Sharp and THX have a long history of producing audio visual products together, including surround sound systems. And, based on the promo video that Sharp have released (see below), the Aquos is being aimed at the home cinema connoisseur.

However, the Aquos doesn’t come with a connoisseur price tag; the launch price has been set at a rather sensible $8,000, which continues the trend of rapidly falling prices in the UHD sector. Special features and connectivity options have yet to be announced.

Check out the Aquos promo video below, where Sharp also talk about the television’s upscaling capabilities and how its THX certification helps to overcome the general lack of available 4K content that’s currently preventing UHD televisions from taking off.
