LG’s New 84 Inch UD Television Has $20,000 Price Tag

LG UD 84LM9600 Cinema 3D TV SetLG‘s new Ultra Definition LED flat screen television starts shipping out of Korea for release in North America in October 2012, with releases in Europe, Asia and elsewhere in the pipeline.

The LG 84LM9600 boasts four times the resolution than current 1080p HDTVs, as well as passive 3D capabilities and LG’s Smart TV, which offers access to thousands of proprietary apps and online content services including Netflix and Hulu Plus.

The current asking price is a massive $19,999, or around £12,500 (based on the current exchange rate). It sounds like a lot, but it’s actually $5,000 less than what Sony will charging for their 84-inch 4K UD screen, the XBR-84X900, which is due to launch in the US this November.

However, JVC, who recently revealed two digital projects – the DLA-X55R and the DLA-RS48 – that offer 4K upscaling for a comparative bargain of $4,999, have plans for their own 84-inch UD screen that will be released during the first quarter of 2013. The manufacturer have promised that it will retail for under $20,000, so it might be worth hanging on before you make that investment into the world of 4K.
